Over the Sea to Skye

Week 1, 19 – 25th July 2025

Week 2, 26th July – 1st Aug 2025

Mallaig – Mallaig, £895

The Vikings called the Isle of Skye ‘sky-a’ meaning ‘cloud island’ in old Norse, a reference to the often mist-shrouded Cuillin Mountains and the unique weather systems they generate. This beautiful island is home to some of Scotland’s wildest places, some only accessible by boat.

This will be our sailing ground for the week, with not only Skye, but the nearby islands of Rum, Canna, Eigg and Muck – the Small Isles – and the dramatic sea lochs of the mainland all within easy distance.

This week is an open programme, and we will tailor what we do and where we go to the interests of the crew, but as with all Sail Britain’s trips, there will be lots of hands on sailing, and learning more about the ocean, it’s ecosystems and the the amazing wildlife which calls it home.

We will spend the days sailing between beautiful islands, stopping each evening in a wild anchorage with plenty of time to explore ashore. This area is wonderful for walks, sea swims, or you could even try your hand at a spot of fishing! No experience is necessary and the skipper and first mate will teach you everything you need to know to sail the boat and, if you like, have a go at some of the navigation!

Week 1 will begin at Mallaig marina at 6pm on Saturday 19th July, and finish back in Mallaig at 12 noon on Friday 25th.

Week 2 will begin at Mallaig marina at 6pm on Saturday 26th July, and finish at 12 noon on Friday 1st Aug.
